Frequently Asked Questions

Can I insure my RV separately from my auto insurance?

Yes, and in most cases it's the better option. Private RV insurance typically offers stronger coverage than what's available through ICBC — including guaranteed replacement cost for units under 10 years old, and protection whether the unit is on the road, at a campsite, or in storage. Your home insurance generally won't cover it either, so a dedicated policy is usually the right move.

Can I insure my RV against rodent or rat damage?

Typically, no. Pest damage is generally excluded from private recreational vehicle policies because it's considered a maintenance issue rather than a sudden, accidental loss. ICBC comprehensive coverage may cover animal damage in some circumstances, but rodent infestations are usually excluded across the board. It's worth checking the specifics of your policy.

Can I rent out my RV?

Yes, though your insurer will need to know. Renting out your RV typically results in a surcharge on your policy, but coverage is usually still available. If you've already started renting without letting us know, it's important to update your policy — claims that occur during an undisclosed rental period may not be covered.

My RV is older than 10 years — can I still get good coverage?

Yes, though guaranteed replacement cost coverage is generally available for units under 10 years old. For older units, actual cash value or agreed value policies are typically available. We can walk you through what makes the most sense for the age and condition of your unit.

Does my insurance cover the RV during winter storage?

It depends on your policy. Some policies reduce or suspend certain coverages during off-season storage periods, while others maintain full protection year-round. If you're winterizing your RV, it's a good idea to confirm your coverage status and let us know — some insurers require notification when a unit goes into storage.
